That’s how many copies of “A Promised Land,” a political memoir by former President Barack Obama, sold in its first week after being released Nov. 17, according to market researcher The NPD Group. Obama’s book is the top-selling first-week nonfiction book since NPD began tracking the publishing industry in 2004. The title with the second highest first-week sales was “Becoming,” by former First Lady Michelle Obama (711,000), which was released in 2018.
